Aftermath: Four Great Women & A Manicure

Posted in Season 20 by Ieuan on the Sunday, 17 May

Here are the results for last week’s episode.

A total of 5.16 million viewers watched ‘Four Great Women & A Manicure’, making it the least-watched episode of all time. These are the ten least watched episodes – most of which are Season 20:

  1. Four Great Women & A Manicure (Season 20) 5.16m
  2. Lisa the Drama Queen (Season 20) 5.75m
  3. Father Knows Worst (Season 20) 5.94m
  4. Gone Maggie Gone (Season 20) 5.97m
  5. No Loan Again, Naturally (Season 20) 5.99m
  6. Mona Leaves -a (Season 19) 6.02m
  7. In The Name Of The Grandfather (Season 20) 6.15m
  8. Burns & The Bees (Season 20) 6.19m
  9. Any Given Sundance (Season 19) 6.20m
  10. The Way We Weren’t (Season 15) 6.20m

Family Guy had 6.47 million viewers at 9:00, keeping it as the number one performer for Fox on Sunday nights. King Of The Hill had 4.10 million viewers and American Dad 4.95 million, which, compared to The Simpsons at 8:00 in a more accessible timeslot is actually impressive.

Low ratings have been blamed on lots of things before, but there’s no question about it: people do not like these “storytelling” episodes. They alienate the casual Simpsons viewer, who are likely to turn off or just not tune in to begin with if the stories do not interest them. Even I did not want to watch it, but for the purposes of this website I forced myself to. The show would be doing itself a favor in dropping these episodes entirely and having the season cut short one episode.
