Glasgow & Aberdeen Fight Over Willy

Posted in News by Ieuan on the Saturday, 6 June

These two Scottish locations Glasgow and Aberdeen (and their officials) have been arguing about where Groundskeeper Willie “hails” from because there are two references about both Aberdeen and Glasgow in episodes of the Simpsons.

In Season 8 in Simpsoncalifragilisticexpialad’ohcious, Willie reminisces about Shary Bobbins: “Then she got her eyesight back. Suddenly the ugliest man in Glasgow wasn’t good enough for her!”

However, in the Season 14 episode, ‘Scuse Me While I Miss the Sky, Willie wakes from a nap shouting “Go Aberdeen!”

And in another episode he says he “hails” from North KiltTown, which if you were wondering doesn’t exist, the closest location is Kilton in Somerset, England.

As The Simpsons Poster Contest draws to a close and the winners are announced, Fox have decided to treat US fans to yet another contest. This time around, fans are being asked to create their very own live-action couch gag video, and upload it to MySpace for a chance at winning a trip to Los Angeles to attend The Simpsons 21st season premiere party, a Sony Home Entertainment System and a custom Simpsons drawing. It may even air on an episode.

American Simpsons Stamps

Posted in News by Ieuan on the Saturday, 4 April

I think I know where I am with posting episodes now. I will do that now.

The US Postal Service have announced that the Simpsons family will be commemorated on 44cent First-Class Mail stamps in 2009. Featuring images of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson, the stamps have been personally designed by creator and executive producer, Matt Groening.

The Postal Service receives about 50,000 stamp suggestions per year, yet only about 20 topics make the cut for circulation, The Simpsons being one of the lucky few getting chosen.

More infomation and a preview on the stamps will be released on the 9 April and we will post the new information here shortly after.

“This has been a dream for Fox and The Simpsons creative teams for some time and we are very proud to have been granted this honor. The timing couldn’t be better as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the show,” said Elie Dekel, Executive Vice President, Fox Licensing and Merchandising.

President Obama Featuring On Simpsons

Posted in News by Ieuan on the Saturday, 4 April

I think I’ll start with the news, it’s easier because I don’t know where I am with the plot/preview/aftermath episode things.

He may be the first black president of the United States, but Barack Obama could make yet more history by becoming the first US president to lend his voice to The Simpsons.

Al Jean and James L. Brooks, executive producers behind The Simpsons, are hoping President Obama will agree to lend his voice to an episode of the 20th or 21st series. “We’d love to have Barack on the show,” said Jean. “No president has agreed to do it yet but we’ll keep asking.”

While there hasn’t been an actualy US president on the show as of yet (George W Bush and Bill Clinton were imitated by voice actors), former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has appeared as himself, and former Vice President Al Gore has been included in Matt Groening’s Futurama.
